THE famous yellow fur of BBC Children in Need's Pudsey Bear has had a very fashionable Scottish make-over, thanks to Edinburgh-born menswear designer Patrick Grant.

The designer, from London-based label E. Tautz, has created a tartan-clad Pudsey with a black woollen eye bandage.

The bear is one of 12 fashion collaborations with the Children in Need charity that includes designers such as Erdem, Henry Holland, Giles Deacon and fellow Scot, Jonathan Saunders.

Designer handbag label Mulberry has also created their own version of Pudsey in brown leather, while Pringle of Scotland has created a bear in pure cashmere.

The fashion Pudseys are currently being exhibited to the public at Liberty in London and are available to buy in auction on the ebay website. Proceeds will go towards the BBC Children in Need charity.

Mr Grant said: “Our Pudsey was made by hand here in Norton & Sons at No. 16 Savile Row. He is made in a wool and cashmere tartan cloth woven by Lochcarron in Selkirk for the E. Tautz autumn/winter 2009 collection. His foot and eye patch are in a plain black wool melton cloth from Yorkshire. He is stuffed with discarded wool, cotton, linen and silk scraps from the tailors boards in our workroom.”

Sarah Monteith, director of marketing and fundraising for BBC Children in Need, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have such prestigious designers turn Pudsey couture. A truly inspirational fund raising initiative.”
