The event, which will be hosted by presenter and style icon Alexa Chung on June 11 in the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow, is now in its seventh year. This is also the first year that tickets, priced at £35, are available to the public.

The finalists will be judged by a panel of industry insiders and fashion journalists. The winners will be announced at the ceremony which will also include nominee catwalk shows, music acts and an exclusive Swarovski catwalk event.

The awards were set up by fashion publicist Tessa Hartmann in 2006 to honour and celebrate the best of Scottish fashion, and in the last seven years Scottish designers, fashion photographers, models, stylists and make-up artists have been celebrated.

Ms Hartmann said: "It's a big step for us to move to this impressive venue that is the Clyde Auditorium, but year on year we receive so many requests from young fashionistas all desperate to attend this global event.

"So, for the first time, the whole of Scotland will be able to witness the wealth of creative talent we have here – supermodels, fashion personalities – and revel in our wonderful heritage, along with a fabulous night of top entertainment from pop stars, catwalk shows and of course the exclusive Swarovski runway.

"We are delighted to welcome our incredible judging panel flying in from across Europe, Australia, the US and Dubai all contributing to our aim of placing Scottish fashion talent on the global map. With style icon Alexa Chung as our host, all eyes will for sure be on Scotland's most fashionable red-carpet night of the year in 2012."

The black-tie event will include a champagne reception followed by the official awards ceremony. There will also be a post-event gala dinner for 500 VIP guests along with an after-party sponsored by Capital FM.

The Herald and Sunday Herald are media partners with the event and are also sponsoring the Young Scottish Fashion Photographer of the Year category.

Jonathan Russell, editor-in-chief of The Herald & Times Group, said: "The Herald and Sunday Herald are pleased once again to be partners with the Scottish Fashion Awards. The list of nominees reflects the breadth of fashion talent in Scotland, from a host of young designers to more established names. We are also proud to be sponsoring the Young Scottish Fashion Photographer of the Year category."

Judges this year include award-winning photographer Rankin and editor of InStyle magazine Eilidh MacAskill.

Judge Nathalie Colin, who is the creative director of Swarovski, said: "Swarovski are excited to support the Scottish Fashion Awards for the fifth successive year. It's a wonderful event whose key aim is to support and nurture talent, which is one of the key aims of the Swarovski brand. Our catwalk show this year will be one of our biggest and most exciting to date."

The list of 2012 sponsors include Swarovski, Radley London and House of Fraser.
