There’s plenty of ways to buy coveted labels and high quality garments at a price you can afford. It’s just about looking in the right places.
In the run up to Christmas there are a number of designer sample sales and events here in Scotland which could help you stock up on pieces that wouldn’t normally be in your price range. From high end fashion houses, local big names to emerging talents, there’s something for every type of fashionista. Here's the list of the one's you should definitely be available for:
Designer Sales UK
Dates in Edinburgh and Glasgow between 2nd - 5th Nov
Designer Sales UK is an organisation which put on large sample sale events throughout the UK, the kind of brands you can expect to find on the rails are the likes of Belstaff, Ralph Lauren, Maison Martin Margiela, Moschino, Vivienne Westwood, Burberry, Gucci and Valentino to name a few! Standard entry is £2, however if you’re feeling a bit special, VIP tickets are £30 which include a goody bag, glass of champagne, further discount and the chance to browse for an hour before everyone else. Pop Up Shop - Accessories Sample Sale
(2nd - 3rd Nov, Princes Sq. Ground floor beside Reiss)
This one is set to be something special. Three of Scotland's previous Accessory Designer of the Year award winners and nominees in one place, selling their wares at vastly reduced prices. Beautiful jewellery from Euan McWhirter, luxury hosiery from Bebaroque and Stunning millinery from William Chambers will be available on both days between 9.30am - 6pm. With items starting at £15 you’re bound to find something for your money, however bear in mind they will only be excepting cash payments.
For something different, a swishing event can often turn up great finds…
I Heart Swapping
(3rd Nov - Voodoo Rooms Edinburgh)
A swishing event in Edinburgh, for £5 you bring 5 unwanted but good quality items and then you can swap them for 5 items which you do want! You drop your items off at 12pm and then head back at 1pm to begin swapping. This type of event is a hit or miss depending on what other people have brought, however with the chance of picking up 5 great new things for £5 it's a risk worth taking. The rules are no sleepwear, gymwear, underwear, swimwear or earrings unless they are new and with tags.
Bold Souls
(Nov 22nd - Venue to be confirmed)
Bold Souls is a fashion pop-up event in Glasgow which showcases emerging talent and allows people to opportunity to buy directly from young designers and craftspeople.Not necessarily a place to pick up bargains, however many of the designers here tend to have some offers on specifically for the event, so there are some about if you’re willing to look for them! The venue and exhibitors as well as other details are always kept secret until closer to the event; updates will be via their Facebook profile.
