As my mission to find the internet’s strangest creations continues, this week I am stepping into the realm of sweet alternatives to savoury favourites and trying my hand at dessert nachos.

Classic nachos are one of those dishes which, when done right, are difficult to beat. The combination of crispy tortilla chips, sweet tomato salsa, spicy chillies, gooey mozzarella and mountains of soured cream is not only effortlessly easy to make, it is also the perfect comfort food.

It is one of my favourites, partly because it is a dish which gives the illusion of cooking skills but mainly because it is adaptable and can be transformed by adding new toppings, such as haggis and chilli.

As a result, I believe that it should be possible to turn this savoury treat into a fantastic dessert and, after searching the web, I decide to start work on a recipe which promises to turn classic nachos into a mouth-watering mountain of cinnamon, fruit and chocolate.

I start by mixing melted butter, sugar and cinnamon together and brushing it over the soft flour tortillas. I then cut the tortillas into eighths and put them in the oven for five minutes.

I am a bit concerned about what disaster could be waiting for me when I open the oven as I am not convinced that this is going to work. I have tried making crisps and chips using this method before and it has always gone horribly wrong.

However, I decide to persevere and begin melting chocolate and cream to create my sauce and dicing strawberry, kiwi fruit and peaches for my salsa. I have chosen these fruits because I think they will work well, however, you can use whatever you like.

After opening the oven, I am shocked to discover that the recipe has actually worked and I have been left with crispy, sweet cinnamon tortilla chips which are delicious on their own. Buoyed by my success I am now almost certain that pouring fruit and chocolate over these will only make them better.

I start assembling my nachos by layering the tortilla chips, fruit and chocolate sauce and then top the whole thing off with a layer of grated white chocolate.

Finally it is ready to serve and it has definitely been worth the wait. The finished dish is even better than the savoury nachos and perfect for sharing.

So there you have it, a cracking dessert which takes comfort food to a new level. Sweet!

2 tablespoons of unsalted butter (melted)

50g of granulated sugar

3 teaspoons of cinnamon

3 soft flour tortillas

60g of milk chocolate

75g of single cream

1 kiwi fruit (diced)

1 peach (diced)

Half a packet of strawberries (diced)

20g of white chocolate (grated)

1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees centigrade

2. Melt the butter in the microwave for around 40 seconds to 1 minute (longer if required)

3. Add the sugar and cinnamon to the butter and mix together (Microwave the mixture if required)

4. Brush the butter, sugar and cinnamon mixture over both sides of the tortillas

5. Cut each tortilla into eighths and place on a baking sheet on an oven tray

6. Toast the tortillas for five minutes or until crispy

7. Heat the chocolate in the microwave, stirring regularly, until melted

8. Pour the single cream into the melted chocolate and mix together

9. Dice the kiwi, strawberries and peach and mix together in a separate bowl

10. Start creating your nachos by layering the tortilla chips, fruit and chocolate sauce on a plate

11. Sprinkle with white chocolate and serve
