Aspiring models Lucy Garvie and Josh Wilson have been named Fashion Faces of the Future.

The pair beat 13 other hopefuls at Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel to secure the top prize in the competition, run by The Sunday Herald, in conjunction with agency Model Team and clothing label Jigsaw.

Lucy, 18, from Aberdeen, and Josh, 21, of Falkirk, took part in a catwalk-show final before judges voted them the winners.

Afterwards Lucy said: “I don’t think it’s quite hit me yet that I’ve just won, but I think over the next couple of days and getting information from Model Team, I’ll think, wow, I’ve actually got a contract now. It’s really exciting.”

Josh added: “I feel absolutely fantastic. I was really shocked that I won, but it’s been a great experience and I can’t wait for the future.”

From hundreds of entries, readers chose a top 40 and the judges picked the 15 finalists.

In an X Factor style competition, Michael O’Brien from the Model Team, Fiona Best from Catwalk Productions, Herald & Times photographer Kirsty Anderson, Ciara Rockhead from Jigsaw and Richard Walker, editor of the Sunday Herald, judged the fifteen models on the catwalk, before deliberating on which boy and girl to name the winners.

Head judge Richard Walker said the decision making  “came down to the wire.”

“There were some very different looks and it was the choice between a distinctive look, which is not as versatile, or a look you could translate into different platforms, such as editorial and catwalk. I’m very pleased with the eventual winners. The standard of entries was very high," he said.

“It’s the first year we’ve done it so we weren’t sure what the standard would be, but it exceeded all our expectations. It was very hard to decide and it came down to the wire in both categories, we had discussions and made bargains, but we are absolutely sure with our choice of winners.”

The event raised cash for charity Debra, which helps people with blistering condition epidermolysis bullosa.

The winners get one-year Model Team contracts, £500 to spend in Jigsaw, and a portfolio of pictures taken by Herald & Times photographers.
