This week on my adventure to find the internet’s strangest culinary concoctions I have decided to enter the realm of American sweets as I try my hand at making chocolate dipped peanut butter cookie sandwiches.

There was a time when I was not really a fan of American sweets. Although I had been known to enjoy a packet of Twizzlers or Charleston Chews, I had always found their chocolate and cookies slightly lacking in sweetness. I don’t know why but they just did not seem to pack enough of a punch to satisfy my sweet tooth.

However, that was before I was introduced to the joys of chocolate covered peanut butter and double stuffed cookies, two treats which more than make up for any sweet deficiencies exhibited by the other confectionaries produced by our American cousins.

These sweet American goliaths are a match for any of our sweeter treats and, as I sit enjoying a cup of tea, it hits me that, if they were combined together they could become so much more. Perhaps it was the sugar talking!

As I consider the plot for my super sweet, I decide to take to the internet to see if I can find a recipe that will bring these two treats together and, within a matter of moments, I stumble across something that is even better than I could have expected: chocolate dipped peanut butter cookie sandwiches.

This simple recipe takes these two American culinary institutions, deconstructs them and turns them into sweet sandwiches which are then dunked in melted milk chocolate. This sounds utterly perfect: I have to give it a go.

I start by taking the top off of 12 cream filled cookies. I have chosen to use Oreo double stuffed cookies, however, you can use whatever biscuits you want. I then sandwich chocolate covered peanut butter cups between two sides of cream covered cookie and dunk the resultant sandwich in some melted milk chocolate. I then place the chocolate covered sandwiches in the fridge and chill them for 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes it’s time to give the sweet sandwiches a try and, if I am honest, I cannot wait. The finished products look like tea cakes and tastes fantastic: very sweet but with a slightly salty peanut butter aftertaste. They are so sweet in fact that I actually struggle to eat more than one, despite desperately wanting to finish the plate! Definitely a treat to rival any of our sweeter confectionary.

So it is possible to turn peanut butter and cookies into an even tastier and sweeter desert. Why not give it a go?

12 cream filled cookies (I used Oreo double stuffed)

6 Reese’s peanut butter cups

200g of milk chocolate


1 Twist the top off of the cookies so that the filling stays on one side

2 Sandwich a Reese’s cup between two of the filling sided cookies and apply a little bit of pressure so the sandwich sticks together

3 Melt the chocolate either in a bowl over boiling water or in the microwave, stirring frequently

4 Dip the peanut butter cookie sandwiches in the chocolate

5 Sprinkle some chocolate or broken cookie on top of each sandwich

6 Place the dipped sandwiches on some baking paper in the fridge and chill for 15 minutes

7 Serve
