Often featured in 'cocktails you should know how to make' lists, the Daquiri pulls off the perfect balancing act: it's sweet and it's sour; soft on the palette while also packing a punch.

The basic ingredients for a Daquiri are simply rum, citrus and sugar, meaning small changes to the drink makes a big difference to the taste.

Not a fan of a zesty drink? Add strawberries to sweeten the sip. Like more of a bite to your tipple? Squeeze some passion fruit into the mix.

Rumoured to have been invented by an American mining engineer who named it after an iron mine in Cuba, the drink was originally served in a tall glass filled with ice. We recommend it in a Martini glass with some great company.

20ml lime juice

5 ml sugar syrup

Pour the light rum, lime juice and sugar syrup into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.

Shake well.

Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Add fruit of choice until happy with taste.
