This week it's pizza!
La Favorita, 325 Leith Walk, Leith, Edinburgh
Tonia C says that "this place is a must" for pizza lovers. Whatever you like on top, "they have it all in the best quality possible." They deliver to your door, or you can eat in and enjoy the "lively and welcoming" service.
Firebird, 1321 Argyle Street, Glasgow West End
Michelle M sampled "the Serrano Pizza. It is really good - fresh ingredients, great flavours and nice & crispy! The service is really good and I like the fact they cater to gluten free diets."
Mamma's, 30 Grassmarket, Old Town, Edinburgh
Elizabeth G was pleased to find her gluten-free pizza base from Mamma's was "crispy - I hate soggy pizza bases". And in addition to all the traditional toppings, there are "lots of other exciting options, including cactus" and even "marshmallows and chocolate!"
NY Slice, 369 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow City Centre
"Doing traditional round pies with thin crusts and stunning toppings, they are getting so many things right," raves Andrew C. "First the crust. Wow. The dough tasted slow proofed to develop the flavour. Loads of really nice flavours from the base alone. The sauce is perfectly minimal, providing some great tomato flavours."
La Piazza, 97-99 Shandwick Place, West End, Edinburgh
This "classy" spot in the west of the city boasts "efficient and fast service". Tanja R was impressed with the serving size: "I ordered the Pizza Siciliana with capers and anchovies and got a right portion to eat." And if you can't decide, "you can even go half-half" with your dinner companion.
Bier Halle, 7-9 Gordon Street, Glasgow City Centre
Famous for its 2-4-1 pizzas between 12pm - 10pm, Andrew M recommends that you try the "duck and hoisin pizza or the chicken pesto. Really tasty, great pizzas and great value when you've got an even number of diners!"
Tony Macaroni Alla Romana, 208 Bruntsfield Place, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh
Alan S had heard this was the "best pizza slice in town" and wasn't disappointed. "The pizza is amazing," he confirms. "Thumbs up from me." And at only £2 for a slice, you can't go far wrong!
Little Italy, 205 Byres Road, Glasgow West End
"Purveyors of utterly perfect pizzas at just £3.20 a slice or £5.40 for a ten inch, its no wonder the place is constantly packed with eager customers!" Jules M recommends that "if you want to sit in, then grab a table before making your order to be on the safe side."
Centotre, 103 George Street, New Town, Edinburgh
Emma W says that the "pizzas are delish" and they do gluten-free bases as standard. "This is a firm favourite with me," she continues, "as the staff are always nice and the dishes are fresh and clean."
Vespbar, 14 Drury Street, Glasgow City Centre
Lauren C loved the "sausage picante with gloriously big lumps of pork dotted merrily around a mega thin margherita base with just the tiniest hint of chilli through it!"
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
