This week it's vegan.

The Auld Hoose

23-25 St Leonard's Street, Newington, Edinburgh

Alex J "couldn't live without it" and its "fantastic" atmosphere. "They score bonus points with me for their excellent veggie and vegan options," she says. She loves the "awesome" onion rings, which can be made vegan on request.

The 78

10-14 Kelvinhaugh Street, Glasgow

Graeme H paid a visit for meat-free Monday - £11.50 for three courses of vegan delights. "I had the falafel burger, which tasted as good as any meat burger I've had in Glasgow and the chilli fries were brilliant - proper potato wedge style chips that were cooked perfectly."

Union of Genius

8 Forrest Road, Old Town, Edinburgh

"Like espresso-based coffee, everyone seems to be offering soup these days," observes David S. But this is "more than that", he proclaims. "Full of flavour, healthy and in some cases unusual. They cater to the meat lover and the vegan equally."

Rishi's Indian Aroma

61 Bath Street, Glasgow

A vegan haven if you want lots of choice! "Southern India has a long culinary tradition of animal-product free cooking. Using a wide variety of plants and spices to generate brilliant tasty dishes." Andrew C says "take your decent Indian restaurant menu vegan selection and times it by ten!"

The Scran and Scallie

1 Comely Bank Road, Stockbridge, Edinburgh

When seeking somewhere to take a vegan friend for a special dinner, Rachel R was delighted at the special menu they created. "They couldn't have been more helpful," she gushes, and the "grilled tofu and pheasant's back mushroom" was a real hit.

13th Note

50 King Street, Glasgow

Martin R raves that "the spicy wedges and veggie burgers are amazing - yes amazing veggie burgers, praise indeed from a meat-eater! Snack food like this is available in the bar with a full veggie menu in the restaurant at the back."

The Engine Shed

19 St Leonard's Lane, Newington, Edinburgh

Elizabeth says that "food-wise, this is a real find." Selling tofu "smoked, marinated, plain or in burger form" and "vegan carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and vegan chocolate fudge cake", it's a go-to spot for vegans like her!

Saramago at CCA

350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow

"The menu is pretty varied - there's a range of small plates which you can have as a starter or just have a few of them tapas style." Lucy B also likes the "more substantial mains". Try the "artichokes with garlic aioli, not too oily - just right".

The Chocolate Tree

123 Bruntsfield Place, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh

Emily H and her colleagues needed some ice cream on a hot day and were thrilled to find options for all at The Chocolate Tree. "The chocolate sorbet was so loved by our resident vegan that within 10 minutes of finishing he suggested another Chocolate Tree run", she says!

The Flying Duck

142 Renfield Street, Glasgow

For a different vegan twist, Caley M was delighted to find a vegan option for her White Russian - "there's a soya milk option". Meals served until 8pm and snacks til 10pm, there's even vegan ice cream to finish!
