Bottling-your-own has proved popular with the rich and famous lately (remember Mogwai's RockAct81W whisky, and the Iron Maiden-inspired beer Trooper?).
And now it's just become possible to win a chance to design and name a brew of your own.
Strathaven Ales is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Strathaven Gala Festival on Saturday 14th June this summer by brewing a one-off 4% Amber beer to mark the occasion - and is offering a competition with a unique prize.
All participants need to do to enter is conceive a name and design the label that will appear on the bottles to be in with a chance of winning.
The design must include the words 'Strathaven Gala' and '40' and should form a square shape to fit on to the label - the rest is entirely dependent on personal choice.
The winning entry, along with the designer's name, will appear on the bottles which will be on sale from Strathaven Ales during this year's Strathaven Gala Festival week, from Saturday 7th to Saturday 14th June.
Anyone can enter the competition, and you can submit your entries to the Brewery at Craigmill, by email, to info@strathavenales.com or through the Strathaven Ales Facebook page.
Entries can be submitted in hard copy or digitally, and the closing date for the competition is Friday 2nd May.
Strathaven Ales has also been celebrating a Silver award recently for their popular Craigmill Mild beer in the prestigious National Beer Competition of the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA).
This brewery's 'Craigmill Mild' black ale was judged champion beer of 'Standard Mild Ales', and was one of just 60 beers to win a medal from around 2000 entries in the initial regional heats of the competition. The 300 finalist beers were judged by a panel of brewing experts and enthusiasts in Sheffield.
Strathaven Ales' boss Craig Buchanan said: "To receive a silver award in this competition, judged by some of the finest brewers in the country, is the ultimate endorsement of the quality of our products and we are delighted to have left Sheffield with a medal".
"Thanks to everyone at the brewery who has helped us to brew this award-winning ale as part of our increasing range now being enjoyed by an ever increasing number of followers."
