Jennie H sampled the maple-braised short rib and steak tartare for starters. "Both were fantastic - the short rib was fall-apart, melt-in-the-mouth tender and the steak tartare was beautifully seasoned and came with the egg yolk in a half-egg-shell on top of the beef which was a really cute touch."

Shebeen

8 Morrison St, West End, Edinburgh

Sharon G reckons that this South African eatery's "steaks are probably among the best I've ever had. The rub and the five week hanging make for a delicious piece of meat." She opted for the "cheetah" size steak, but aims to one day manage the mighty "lion"!

This burger joint prides itself on their locally sourced beef from Aberfoyle. Michelle M raves about the fiery beef burger, "the combination of flavours from the toma raschiera cheese, jalapeños, chipotle mayo and the beef was like a joyful explosion in your mouth".

"We ordered chilli con carne nachos to share and both went with the 5oz beef burger," recounts Amanda P with delight. "The meat in both courses was superb, incredibly succulent and fresh."

Kyloe, as Valerie M points out, is "a Scottish word for Highland beef cattle", so they know how to chow brown cow. "The best Sunday Roast experience I have ever had... a feast of the finest thick cut Scottish beef - sliced in front of you with platters of brightly coloured crunchy veggies."

Trying the steak sandwich, Gordon M says it was "a delicious cut of meat, cooked medium rare and well rested, on a ciabatta with a subtle horseradish mayo. The first bite confirmed it tasted as good as it looked!"

As you'd expect from somewhere with "steak" in the name, the "6oz rump steak" served up in front of Nadya was "awesome", as she puts it. "Perfectly cooked, moist and melt in the mouth."

"If you're looking for a genuine authentic Polish experience with real homely food, then you'll love this place," says Nicola C. She tried the "potato pancakes with beef stew. The pancakes were just the right sort of crispy and the beef stew was perfectly flavoured!"
