Jamie K loves that they "offer fast-food with a healthy tinge, everything from soups of the day, potato scone rolls and jacket potatoes are up for grabs".

The Baked Potato Shop

56 Cockburn Street, Old Town, Edinburgh

"An Edinburgh institution!" proclaims Claire C. "It does baked potatoes and they are absolutely amaaaazing. They only do veggie and vegan fillings, which means a rainbow assortment of toppings for your tattie, and they do not scrimp on size."

Babu Bombay Street Kitchen

186 West Regent Street, Glasgow

Jennie H loves the vada pau - "this is the spicy potato fritter made with green chilli and ginger, served with chilli and coriander chutney and tamarind sauce in a Morton's roll. I don't know how somebody can make potato in a roll so darn tasty!"

Nikki's Sandwich Shop

5a William Street, West End, Edinburgh

"Nikki's plays a not inconsiderable role in my magnificent corpulence," confesses Andrew B. "A huge baked potato with chilli and cheese for under £4... exceptional good value for money and tasty as bacon on a sugar stick."

Bread Meats Bread

104 St Vincent Street, Glasgow

"The sweet potato chips for me were the best dish of the night," raves Pammit G. She goes on to say it's "an extremely clever side - sweet and crunchy and just yum, a must try for anyone going here to eat, and served with a scrumptious cayenne scotchbonnaise dip".

33 Elm Row, Leith, Edinburgh

"This place is cheap - and in a good way," says Jonathan M. "The food is awesome, and the staff are really friendly... but more importantly they also do amazing baked potatoes."

Restauracja U Jarka

5 Parkgrove Terrace, Glasgow

Nicola C "had the potato pancakes with beef stew which was tasty. The pancakes were just the right sort of crispy and the beef stew was perfectly flavoured!"

The Engine Shed

19 St Leonard's Lane, Newington, Edinburgh

"The concept behind the place is really ethical," says Elizabeth G, a big fan of this community project. "Ethics aside, food-wise, this is a real find. They have a changing daily menu, which often includes jacket potato with a variety of filling options."

Panini's Sandwich Bar

74 Waterloo Street, Glasgow

"If it's hot comfort food you're after to banish those rainy day blues then step right up." Jonathan M says they have "obligatory soups and baked potatoes, and you can take your pick from a choice of hearty specials".

The Tattie Shop

3 Viewforth Street, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh

Graeme W loves that you can "customise your tattie the way you want it. My personal favourite being the chilli and cheese with the cheese on first..." but he does advise "not to go here during school lunch hours" - word of those marvellous tatties has spread to the classrooms!
