What is it?

A home tri-band network router. The load placed on household internet connections often exceeds the capabilities of our routers. These devices service our requests in a round-robin style which then struggle when there are too many being sent to a single antenna. Linksys's new network hub utilises three connection points simultaneously to share the duties and increase performance.

Good points?

Two 5Gz bands and one 2.4Gz band allow home wi-fi devices to gain more bandwidth. This eliminates buffering of video streaming and help contribute to a tranquil and tantrum-free home.

The name EA8300 is overly technical and unintuitive, but Linksys promises that's where the convoluted aspects end and indeed set-up was simple enough to complete without the manual.

Seamless transition between access points is also available if you own any range extender product from Linksys. This means you can connect to your home network via any device without needing additional credentials.

Bad points?

A lack of native VPN support will force users to opt for cumbersome software solutions which hog your computer's resources. Also, it's not the cheapest router offering multiple band connections and the accompanying mobile app offers little over the standard browser configuration page.

Best for ...

Those with lots of data-hungry gadgets to feed. Although the router is on the lower end of the Linksys speed range, it's more than adequate for most households.

Avoid if ...

Your web usage doesn't extend to streaming video content from the web or you'd rather your children focused on something other than their phones.
