Now in its 11th year, the annual celebration of the country’s finest food and drink is the place to be this weekend. 2. Midge Ure, The Christians & Altered Images
Edinburgh Playhouse, Sunday

The three critically acclaimed legends of the 1980s have joined forces in a major new UK tour. With millions of albums sales and memorable hits, this authentic triple-header is an event not to be missed.

3. Dragons of Drummohr
Big Shed, Wallyford, until October 29

This amazing augmented reality performance will lead you to a parallel universe where you will be tasked with assisting the Dragon Protection League in finding all the magical creatures living in the grounds of Drummohr House.  Just make sure to avoid the trolls, nest of spiders – and definitely don’t talk to the troll hunter. With a fairy settlement, a grooving “disco-bobulator”, a mesmerising dragimation and much more, this visually packed event is a must.

4. The Potter Tour
Chambers Street, Edinburgh, Saturday

Walk in the footsteps of the most influential author of modern times, JK Rowling, and learn her story, all the while exploring the genesis of Harry Potter where both Quidditch and Butterbeer are possible. Head along to chat and learn about the development of the books that made Rowling. The tour will also take place on October 28 and November 4.

5. Trainspotting
Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, until November 11

The coarse, intense and hilarious rollercoaster ride through the heroin-hinterlands of Thatcher-era Leith needs no introduction for fans of the book and film. Several performances are close to selling out, but there is still plenty of availability.

6. EH6 Festival

Heading to Leith for the very first time, the live music, food and craft drink event aims to bring together some big names, as well as all the best talent, in Scotland. The festival features more than 150 bands in more than 10 different venues. With craft stalls, art exhibitions, food from across the world, a beer market where some of Scotland’s finest breweries will be, children’s entertainment, a massive variety of music and so much more. The Line-up includes Alabama 3, Gerry Cinnamon, Big Country, The Kyle Falconer Band and more.

7. Braemar Creative Arts Festival

Braemar’s stunning scenery, interesting history, and tight-knit community of talented people eager to broaden their horizons in a variety of creative ways is the perfect venue for this arts festival. Festivities this weekend include workshops comprising of music and dance, cookery, arts and crafts, drama and literature as well as a Festival Fringe featuring evening events.

8. That’ll Be the Day
Gardyne Theatre, Dundee, tomorrow and Saturday

What started out as a six-week experimental tour three decades ago, That’ll be the Day continues to go from strength to strength as it celebrates its milestone anniversary. Prepare for a party as the legendary and most successful touring rock ‘n’ roll production returns with a brand new show. Trevor, Gary and the gang will be bringing on back the good times with a combination of their comedy routine sand back-to-back classic gold hits from the 1950s right through to the 70s.

9. Charlie Landsborough

The country and folk musician and singer, who achieved 
major success in 1994 with hit song What Colour is the Wind?, kicks off his UK tour in England today before taking on Scotland. His songwriting and ballads and blues music has been renowned for being easy on the ear, containing often personal lyrics, all the while mixed with his wit and repartee.

To celebrate the school holidays, the shopping centre has been telling stories this month with a special and free literary event. Youngsters can enjoy tales from The Village Storytelling Centre tomorrow while Glasgow Libraries is also on hand to deliver a range of fun activities each day. Peter Rabbit visits today and, in between storytelling, young readers can get their faces painted too, free of charge.
