The penultimate afternoon of music in the 2017/18 Sunday Classics series, Arabella Steinbacher is making her Usher Hall debut, bringing her charismatic and energetic performance style to this hugely-popular work, with the beautiful tone of her 1716 Stradivarius coming into its own. Steinbacher began studying violin at the age of three, and became the youngest violin student of Ana Chumachenko at the Munich Academy of Music at only nine years old.She is known as one of today’s leading violinists since her extraordinary 2004 debut with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Sir Neville Marriner in Paris.

2 Bowhill by Segway
Cardrona, Scottish Borders, Saturday
This brand new Segway experience enables adventure seekers to explore the spectacular scenery of the Scottish Borders. Bowhill House and Country Estate has teamed up with Border Segways to bring the exhilarating activity to the popular visitor attraction. Participants will be able to whizz around the estate, both on and off road, during 25-minute sessions.

3 Liquid Sky
Tramway, Glasgow, Saturday and Sunday
This new piece of visual theatre explores the links between sonic art and aerial circus, within a dramatic laser light setting. Featuring music from Glasgow based no-wave heavy beats maker SUE ZUKI, the stage is formed above the audience’s heads by a laser “liquid sky” designed by 
Jack Wrigley, and aerial performer Aedin Walsh twists and turns within this audiovisual space. Titled as an homage to the cult 
1980s movie and a famous laser visual effect, the performance takes inspiration from Doris Lessing’s feminist sci-fi novel “The Marriages Between Zones Three, Four, and Five,” about a matriarchal utopia.

4 Pop-up Science Weekend
Scottish Maritime Museum, Dumbarton, Saturday and Sunday
Co-hosted with National Museums Scotland and featuring Glasgow Science Centre, the National Museum of Flight and PeachyKeen, this free event promises lots of family fun with activities and challenges for all ages. Build a wind turbine, construct a Lego dam, use cycle power to move water, make a battery using cola, race your own hovercraft and more. 

Free museum entry and there will be guided tours all weekend too.

5 Dara O Briain

SEC Armadillo, Glasgow, Saturday and Sunday
O Briain goes back to his day job as a world-class stand-up comedian with his eagerly-awaited brand new show Voice Of Reason. 6 Craft Beer Festival

7 The Fureys

The legends of Irish music and song have been renowned for their hit songs I Will Love You, When You Were Sweet 16, The Green Fields of France and The Old Man. The group has been entertaining audiences worldwide for 40 years. 

Tickets are £20 from falkirkcommunitytrust.org. The group then moves on to Webster Theatre in Arbroath tomorrow and Empire Theatre in Inverness on Saturday.

8 Perth Festival of the Arts

Now in its 47th year, the 10-day event is one of the oldest continuously running arts festivals in Scotland, covers all artforms. 10 BBC Music’s The Biggest Weekend

The countdown is all but over for the most exciting live music event of the summer, as BBC Music, Radio 2 and Radio 3 join forces to bring two days of spectacular performances.
