Fashion designer Jonathan Saunders takes Manhattan after DVF Studio announce him as Chief Creative Officer giving over complete control of the brands image for the very first time.

Just when we all thought it might have been over for fashion designer Jonathan Saunders, legendary US fashion icon Diane Von Furstenberg has announced she’s created a new position stateside for the talented Scot at her studio in New York.

Furstenberg proudly broke the good news herself confirming that she has hired the Glaswegian after establishing a brand new role within her fashion empire just for him.  The iconic designer spoke very favourably saying  “Jonathan’s extraordinary passion for colours and prints, his effortless designs, and his desire to make women feel beautiful make him the perfect creative force to lead DVF into the future”.

Of course, it makes real sense for DVF studio to have someone like Jonathan Saunders on board.  His skill, talent and experience couldn’t be a better match for the iconic US contemporary label.  Both have built their global reputation from flattering the female form with graciously placed printed patterns and graphics in vivid colours.  “I could not have found a cooler, more intelligent designer and I cannot wait to watch him shine as our chief creative officer.”  Furstenberg gushed.

Old enough to have been to Studio 54 and still young enough to be part of the digital revolution Diane von Furstenberg prides herself as being the woman she always wanted to be.

She is best known for introducing the knitted jersey "wrap dress" which became a symbol of women's liberation throughout the 1970s.  A hedonistic time that reflected the glamour and natural self-confidence of Diane herself who played muse for iconic pop artist Andy Warhol and legendary fetish photographer Helmut Newton.

Maybe Jonathan Saunders and Diane von Furstenberg’s connection owes more to pop art and the 60’s sexual revolution than fashion.

Optimistic allusions to pop art pay homage to artist Allen Jones on Jonathan Saunders Spring/Summer 15 runway at Tate Britain.

Diane von Furstenberg pays homage to Andy Warhol by creating the “Pop Wrap” limited edition collection featuring the pop artists iconic prints to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her infamous wrap dress.

Now aged 69 Diane von Furstenberg heads a multi-million dollar global brand.  Since 2006 she has been President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and is currently listed as the 68th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.

Jonathan Saunders surprising new appointment as Chief Creative Officer for DVF Studio is effective immediately with the first collection under his creative direction scheduled to debut at New York Fashion Week this September.

Congratulations Jonathan! You are well in with some global fashion royalty of the highest ranking.
