After a few seasons where a matt finish has been the desired look for lips, the new must-have is a high-shine lipstick.

This new trend is beneficial for the lips as satin finish lipsticks are more moisturising and provide a sheer wash of colour rather than an intense stain. They are also better for everyday use and easier to touch-up on the go as you can apply straight from the lipstick bullet, rather than having to worry about fiddly lip brushes.

My favourites are the Tom Ford lip colour shine lipsticks which contain the brand's signature ingredients of soja seed extract, brazilian mururmuru butter and chamomilla flower oil. They are nourishing and moisturising and provide a luminous shine to your lips. They come in 10 shades ranging from a deep red and subtle nude to the orangey pink pictured here.

If those are a little out of your price range, look no further than Mac, whose satin lipsticks come in 20 colours, including this lovely plum shade.

Brighter lip colours are easier to wear if you buy them in a high-shine finish because they provide only a subtle veil of colour to your lips. So now there is no excuse not to experiment with a bold coral colour or deep purple shade.
