Veteran singer Rod Stewart made scathing comments about his contemporary Elton John's retirement tour, suggesting it "stinks of selling tickets" and is "not rock and roll".

Sir Rod, speaking on a US chat show, said he did not believe in retirement tours but Sir Elton, who has said he will still be creative but doesn't want to travel, announced he will say goodbye to fans with a series of 300 dates spanning three years.

Television presenter Zoe Ball said she has been "truly overwhelmed" by the response to a documentary about her recent Sport Relief cycle challenge. Ball, who cycled from Blackpool to Brighton, opened up about her grief over the death of her partner Billy Yates in the BBC One documentary Hardest Road Home. Cameraman Yates took his own life last year.

Controversial artist Damien Hirst is taking over the gilded state rooms of Houghton Hall in Norfolk for his new exhibition, Colour Space Paintings and Outdoor Sculptures which shows a series of paintings never previously seen in public. Hirst, who won the Turner Prize in 1995 and is famous for his pickled shark, rotting cow’s head and diamond-encrusted skull, made his first spot painting in 1986. The exhibition runs from today until July 15.
