What is it?

In the words of its Danish manufacturer Tangent the Ampster X4 is an audio starter system targeted at students or music lovers without CDs. The system essentially comprises a mini Bluetooth amplifier and two traditional looking loudspeakers.

Good points?

The output is surprisingly sharp and powerful for a 2x50W system and despite its diminutive size manages to look like a high-end amplifier. Connectivity is provided via Bluetooth 4.0 Aux in and either digital or analogue inputs, giving a plethora of options depending on your taste or existing equipment.

Set-up is a doddle as there are virtually no cables to connect and no configuration needed – it all just works seamlessly with no fuss.

The compact nature of the design means it can be tucked away out of sight or mounted on walls and ceilings with the optional brackets to save space.

The unit can also be powered on via Bluetooth so no need to get up out of bed on a Sunday morning to start that marathon easy listening session.

The Ampster is also adept when connected to a TV, a turntable or any other device needing an adequate output source.

Bad points?

The remote is functional but feels a little flimsy, as is often the case with budget electronics.
