Kenny Miller gave a glowing assessment of his attacking partnership with James McFadden and said he believes the pair deserve the chance to start in Scotland's opening World Cup qualifying tie against Macedonia next month.
Neither forward was able to beat Maik Taylor in the Northern Ireland goal as Scotland's unenviable winless sequence in friendly matches at Hampden continued, but Miller felt he and McFadden had performed sufficiently well to be awarded a second chance in Skopje on September 6.
McFadden came closest to scoring, forcing a good save from Taylor, while Miller produced a typically hard-working performance.
"We have four or five really good strikers in the squad and all bring something different," he said. "Myself and James got the shirts tonight and I felt it went pretty well.
"We linked up well, the keeper made a good save from James and I had a chance at the end.
"James likes to get on the ball and make things happen and that allows me to keep the defenders occupied.
"It works well. Hopefully if we are given the nod again in a couple of weeks it can only get better for the double header."
Miller admitted the result was a disappointment despite the non-competitive nature of the match.
"We want to win games," he added. "It's been a while since we've had a friendly win at Hampden and tonight was the perfect opportunity to do that. We passed about well and were the dominant team but it wasn't to be tonight."
Craig Gordon praised Allan McGregor after the Rangers goalkeeper made amends for fouling Warren Feeney by saving David Healy's resultant penalty kick.
"It was a great save although he gave it away in the first place," said Gordon. "I was walking down the tunnel at the time, but the lads said it was a great save.
"We have a friendly rivalry for the goalkeeper's position and I don't mind that at all. It's been a while since there have been a lot of goalkeepers playing first-team football and now we have plenty."
