A Little Chaos (12A)

Eyebrows are raised at the court of Louis XIV, when Kate Winslet's female gardener is given a leading role in creating "gardens of exquisite and matchless beauty" for the Palace of Versailles. Political skulduggery, romance and a surprising friendship with the king (Alan Rickman) follow. Despite a cracking cast and some zingy dialogue, this period piece fails to blossom, due largely to Rickman's dull direction.

The Salvation (15)

If a Danish western seems a strange proposition, think again: with the inestimable Mads Mikkelsen in the lead, as an immigrant farmer with revenge on his mind, and Eva Green as a mysterious mute, this ticks all the genre boxes while throwing in some bleak Danish pathos for good measure.

Gente de Bien (12A)

Affecting culture class tale from Colombia, about a working class boy whose handyman dad leaves him in the care of his well-to-do employer, with disastrous results.

The Last Five Years (12A)

Film version of the stage musical, concerning the romance, marriage and separation of an aspiring actress and a successful novelist.
