The 12th annual Niel [correct spelling] Gow Festival goes ahead this weekend in and around Dunkeld and Birnam in celebration of the great eighteenth century Perthshire fiddler and composer who left a legacy of popular tunes and a prized fiddle that resides in Blair Castle.

The festival is organised by local fiddler Pete Clark who will give a Saturday morning recital in nearby Murthly Castle with cellist Ron Clark as well as featuring in Sunday afternoon's closing concert in Birnam Institute. The festival opens on Friday with a concert bill including American fiddler Brittany Haas from the Boston-based string band Crooked Still and among those also appearing over the weekend are Blazin' Fiddles, Shetland fiddler Ross Couper with guitarist Tom Oakes, and Edinburgh-based duo Eilidh Steel & Mark Neal who recently released their first full-length CD, Imprints.
