The Counterflows festival seeks out partners around the world and 2015 sees Glasgow set for an invasion of new sounds from Brazil through a relationship with Rio De Janeiro's Novas Frequencias festival.

Its director Chico Dub came to the Glasgow event last year, and invited Counterflows' Alasdair Campbell to attend the 4th edition of Novas Frequencias in December. The upshot is an opening night at Glasgow CCA next Thursday, April 2, that features two of the most exciting new acts from the Rio underground, The Chinese Cookie Poets and Negro Leo. Both bring a punk and free improvisational essence to the well known Brazilian sounds of Tropicalia. The festival's opening launch reception is from 7.30pm with the performance by Chinese Cookie Poets, and Negro Leo (pictured) follows, from 9pm in the CCA Theatre.

Freewheeling Australian piano, bass and drums trio The Necks play a rare Scottish date at Platform in Easterhouse, Glasgow on April 12, one of only three UK dates on the cult group's latest European tour. The group, which specialises in completely spontaneous melodic music-making with jazz and minimalist influences, has gained legendary status in Australia with their 2001 album, Aether, achieving the coveted accolade of being added to Australia's National Registry of Sound, an archive of recordings considered as being of particular significance by way of a public vote and an expert panel's endorsement.
