The Budapest Café Orchestra returns to Scotland for an extensive, twenty date tour, beginning at Stobo Village Hall in the Borders on May 26 and taking in the Highlands, Skye and Orkney before an appearance at the East Neuk Festival in Fife on June 28.

The group, which includes violinist Chris Garrick, son of the late pianist, composer and educator Michael Garrick, specialises in folk dance tunes from Russia, Hungary, Ukraine and Romania and more reflective material from the Roma tradition.

The Hot Seats, the bluegrass band that joins the dots between old-time banjo hero Uncle Dave Macon and Frank Zappa, return to Scotland for a series of concerts starting with a residency at Orkney Folk Festival this weekend. The band, who won a Herald Angel on the Edinburgh Fringe in 2008, follow Orkney with dates in Dunfermline (May 28), Stranraer (29), Dundee (31 - afternoon), St Andrews (31 - evening), finishing up with concerts at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh on June 1 and Kilbarchan Performing Arts Centre on June 2.

Edinburgh promoters ClickClack present the latest of their monthly left-field triple bills on Tuesday, May 26 at Henry's Cellar Bar with an international menu. Jazz/improv combo These Are They, the Indian sub-continent-influenced duo Gold Tone & Biscuit and jazz/blues/funk/Caribbean-flavoured horn blowers Pygmies provide the music from 7pm.
