Yes or No? You must be joking

Whatever the outcome of the independence referendum vote, someone will be laughing the morning after the night before when the Stirling Fringe Festival kicks off a week today with the Referendum Show, a satirical stab at the events of the previous day. The comedy show, featuring Keir McAllister and Vladimir McTavish, takes place at the Stirling Smith Art Gallery at 7.30pm.

Other highlights of Stirling Fringe 2014, which runs from September 19 to September 28, include five-piece singing/dancing group Simply Soweto Encha, Alan Bissett with his one-man show Ban This Filth, stand-up comedians Daniel Sloss and Des McLean, singers Amy Duncan and Julie Fowlis, pictured, and a Final Fling Ceilidh in the newly opened Colessio Hotel.

Two Scottish record labels present separate showcases. An acoustic event curated by Lost Map at Cowane's Hospital on September 20 at 8pm features The Pictish Trail, while one week later, at the same venue and same starting time, Chemikal Underground presents Emma Pollock, Rick Redbeard and Sound Of Yell.
