Admit it, Juliette Binoche is something of a coup.

Edinburgh in August is used to seeing regular appearances from comedy giants, luvvies of variable loveableness (hello Simon Callow, hello Steven Berkoff) and even the odd Hollywood B-lister who is at a loose end or fancies a change (in 2014 it was Anne Archer). But la Binoche, well, she's European acting royalty.

So the fact that she will be in Scotland's capital to appear in Ivo van Howe's production of Antigone as part of this year's Edinburgh International Festival should add a certain je ne sais quois to Princes Street next summer.

And Binoche has the heavyweight credentials for Antigone. She's done her time on stage, notching up appearances in plays by Pinter and Strindberg. And this is, after all, an actress who turned down a role in Jurassic Park to appear in Kryzystof Kieslowski's arthouse classic Three Colours Blue (a film singularly lacking in CGI dinosaurs if I remember rightly). We'll agree to draw a veil over Chocolat and the Ferrerro Rocher advert, okay?
