The Consul General of Japan in Edinburgh, Masataka Tarahara, was our honoured guest at the Bank of Scotland Herald Angel awards on Saturday at a ceremony that celebrated the international presence in Edinburgh and Scotland's cultural presence on the international stage.
Mr Tarahara accepted an award on behalf of the Suzuki Company of Toga, whose production Waiting for Orestes: Electra was a highlight of the opening weekend of this year's Festival programme. He brought with him thanks from director Tadashi Suzuki which made clear that the company's inclusion in the Festival had been a desire of EIF directors preceding the present incumbent Jonathan Mills, and that the relationship now established might result in further visits.
