Chart-topping DJ Calvin Harris has been announced as the first headline act of a city music festival taking place this summer.

The Scot will take to the stage at this year's Glasgow Summer Sessions on Sunday August 30.

Organisers said it would be Harris's first headline at an outdoor show - rather than a festival - in Scotland.

He is expected to perform some of his best known hits such as Outside, Under Control, We Found Love and Sweet Nothing at the Bellahouston Park concert.

Confirmation of the headline gig came in the form of a tweet from the global star with the heading: "Tickets on sale Friday!"

Geoff Ellis, chief executive of organisers DF Concerts & Events said: "Following on from his incredibly memorable headline performance at last year's T in the Park, this will be Calvin's first headline at an outdoor show in Scotland - so we are thrilled that it will be at Glasgow Summer Sessions.

"Calvin has previously played two sell-out dates at The Hydro and has toured the world playing his chart-topping tracks, so this will be an incredible gig that shouldn't be missed."

Tickets for the event, described as Scotland's only outdoor city music festival, will go on sale on Friday at 9am.

Details of further support acts are expected to be unveiled later.

Last year's Summer Sessions saw US superstars The Killers, and DJs David Guetta and Steve Angello perform to over 100,000 people at Bellahouston Park across three dates.

Details of Harris's Glasgow gig emerged a day after it was confirmed that he and Kasabian are sharing headlining honours at this year's V Festival.
