WHISKY maker Bruichladdich Distillery Company is in talks over a multimillion-pound sale to French drinks giant Remy Cointreau.

Mark Reynier, chief executive of the Islay business, confirmed the negotiations on Twitter, saying the future for Bruichladdich was very bright and the prospective buyers planned to keep operations as they were.

Mr Reynier was one of the original management team who revived the mothballed distillery in 2000 with the backing of private investors.
