IAN Livingston, the Scot who runs BT, faced questions over the telecom giant's £246 million a year purchase of English football rights at its annual shareholder meeting in London.

Chairman Sir Michael Rake, who has been in the limelight due to his role as deputy chairman of Barclays, also faced investor unease over his multiple boardroom roles.

Shareholder Linda Clarke, who had travelled from Scotland to the meeting, complained of BT's focus on events such as the Olympics and buying football rights after the company secured a three-year deal to show 38 of the best Premier League games starting from August 2013.
