Luxury goods group Burberry has posted a 6% hike in underlying sales thanks to higher prices and strong demand for its men's clothing ranges.

However, shares dipped 5% in early trading as the like-for-like figure missed City expectations and the company noted "more challenging" trading conditions in its first quarter. Total revenues were 11% higher at £408 million in the three months to June 30, while store sales were up 14% to £280m.
