The shadow of a collapsed property company was lifted from a Scottish town centre yesterday as a major pension fund acquired the Mercat shopping centre at Kirkcaldy in a £20million deal.

The Mercat was put into administration last November as its owner, Glasgow-based developer City Site Estates, battled crippling financial headwinds. Mercat Kirkcaldy Ltd called in KPMG as administrators to run the centre, while City Site limped on until it called in its own administrators in May.
