RISING sales and margins helped The Macallan Distillers, the company behind the single malt whisky of that name, to a 38% rise in pre-tax profit to £87.5 million for the year to March 31.

The company, owned by Edrington, benefited from a 23.3% rise in turnover to £157.5m, according to accounts obtained from Companies House.

The directors of the company, which employs 54 people, put the results down to "excellent brand growth in volume and margin in key markets".
