Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has revealed improved sales figures after benefiting from the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Euro 2012 football tournament.

The group – which has almost 60 pubs across Scotland including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee – said the special events had a positive impact on footfall as like-for-like sales rose 6.1% in the 11 weeks to July 8, compared to a 2% rise in the previous quarter, while total sales were up 11.9% in the period. In the 50 weeks to July 8 this year like-for-like sales were 3% ahead with overall figures up 9.2%.
