Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 22 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 250p per kg and an average of 233p (+4.2p on the week), while 14 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 234p and levelled at 204.1p (-7.1p).

Thirty-one prime, B&W bullocks sold to 153.5p and averaged 140.8p (-1.8p).

In the rough ring 42 beef cows averaged 133.1p (-5.1p) and 39 beef cows levelled at 104.8p (-2.6p).

The firm also sold 2954 prime hoggs to a top of £109.50 per head and 222.5p per kg to average 198.2p (+2.8p).

The 477 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £159.50 for Texels and £98.50 for Blackfaces with the overall average levelling at £78.64 (-£3.01).

A small show of 8 dairy cattle sold to £1220 and averaged £1128 (-£283.10)

Wallets Marts sold 849 prime hoggs in Castle douglas yesterday to a top of £100 and 238.7p to average 195.3p (+0.9p).

The 206 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £140 for Texels, £99 for Mules and £82 for Blackfaces.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had a plain show of 18 prime heifers on offer at Ayr yesterday that sold to a top of £1276 per head and 226p per kg to average £1148.46 and 202.8p.

In the rough ring there was also a plainer show on offer that met a similar trade to last week. Twenty-six beef cows averaged 133.7p and 134 dairy cows levelled at 103.9p. Fourteen bulls averaged 139p and 11 clean OTM cattle levelled at 153.8p.

The firm also had 15 dairy cattle forward when buyers were very selective due to the recent milk price crash. Top price on the day was a Holstein Friesian heifer that fetched £1850 with the final sale average levelling at £1283.
