Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 18 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 242p per kg and an average of 231p (+0.1p on the week), while 14 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 210p and levelled at 200.2p (-4.1p).

Eight prime, B&W bullocks sold to 139p and averaged 128.1p (-4.5p).

In the rough ring 56 beef cows averaged 130.1p (+1.6p) and 42 dairy cows levelled at 109.5p (+4p).

The firm also sold 2135 prime hoggs to a top of £90 per head and 204.6p per kg to average 171.9p (-13p), while 52 prime lambs peaked at £100 and 218.6p to level at 202.9p.

The 355 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £139.50 for a Texel and £52.30 for Blackfaces.

Wallets Marts sold 388 store heifers in Castle Douglas on Monday to a top of 284.3p per kg and an average of 228.7p (+12p on the previous sale), while 517 store bullocks peaked at 312.1p to level at 242.2p (+7p). Twenty-four store bulls sold to 268.7p and averaged 221.4p.

The firm went on to sell 380 prime hoggs at the same venue yesterday to a top of £82.50 and 192.7p to average 170.4p (-4.7p), while 12 prime lambs peaked at £90.50 and 201p.

A small show of 68 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £107 for Texels and £72 for Blackfaces.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 16 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1316.70 per head and 231p per kg to average £1146.96 and 211.3p, while 7 prime bullocks peaked at £1276.50 and 206p to level at £1107.74 and 180.7p. Five prime bulls sold to £1035 and 195p to average £983.17 and 183.4p.

In the rough ring 64 beef cows averaged 136.5p and 144 dairy cows levelled at 107.7p. Nineteen bulls averaged 132.6p and 12 clean OTM cattle levelled at 159.5p.

The firm's weekly sale of dairy cattle was a poor show for quality with the top price for the four sold just £1220 for a second calved cow.
