Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 82 store heifers in Lockerbie yesterday to a top of 234.4p per kg and an average of 208.7p (+10.7p on the previous sale), while 39 store bullocks peaked at 257.7p and levelled at 216.6p (+0.3p).
Wallets Marts sold 262 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £87 per head and 207.4p per kg to average 181.2p (+7.8p), while 126 prime hoggs peaked at £88 and 160.2p to level at 131.4p.
There were also 161 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £115 for Texels, £78 for Mules and £70 for Blackfaces.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd report that due to uncertainty over the new BVD regulations cows and clean cattle were scarce at Ayr yesterday. Any cows from category 3 status where their offspring have passed their test are eligible to be sold live.
In the rough ring 39 beef cows averaged 129.6p and 64 dairy cows levelled at 105.6p.
The firm also had 92 head of beef-breeding cattle forward at their monthly sale. Top prices and averages: Bulls to 3100gns and averaged £2054.06 for 8; heifers with calves-at-foot £2650 and £1861.38 for 58; cows with calves £2200 and £1382.15 for 14; bulling heifers £1360 and £1070 for 12.
