The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 16 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 247.1p per kg and an average of 234.4p, while 43 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 281.5p and levelled at 231.6p.

Nine store, B&W bullocks sold to 175.3p and averaged 174.8p.

A small show of 12 beef-breeding cattle sold to £1450 for a cow with calf-at-foot and averaged £1336.67.

John Swan Ltd sold 50 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 244p and an average of 220p (no change on the week), while 27 prime bullocks peaked at 245p and levelled at 219.6p (-3p).

In the rough ring 44 beef-type cows averaged 137.2p (-2.5p).

The firm also sold 1460 prime lambs to a top of £84 per head and 181.4p per kg to average £65.29 and 152.4p (-30.1p), while 139 hoggs levelled at £52.61 and 122.8p (-13.6p).

The 263 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £105 for Texels and average £76.16, while light ewes peaked at £76 for Cheviots and levelled at £60.50.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 927 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £80 and 186.1p to average 151.4p (-19.6p).

There were also 360 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £136 for a pen of Texels, while Blackfaces peaked at £69.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 228.5p and an average of 197.1p (-9.2p), while 38 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 220.5p and levelled at 185.4p (-16.5p). Four prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 159.5p and averaged 155p (-4.5p). Thirty-four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 228.5p and averaged 175.4p (-15.4p), while 48 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 180.5p and levelled at 150.4p (-1p).

In the rough ring 138 beef cows averaged 141.2p (-5p) and 237 dairy cows levelled at 111p (-1.5p). Ten bulls averaged 124.6p (-2.4p).

The firm also sold 1191 prime lambs to a top of £84.80 and 190.5p to average 153p (-25.7p).

A small show of 82 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £104 for Texels.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 17 prime heifers to a top of 246p and an average of 231.7p (+3.1p), while 8 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 215.1p (+5.2p). Nine prime, B&W bullocks sold to 170p and averaged 159.3p (+6.1p).

In the rough ring 44 beef cows averaged 130.1p (-3.1p) and 50 dairy cows levelled at 103.2p (-2.1p).

The firm also sold 631 prime lambs to a top of £89 and 185.4p to average 152.9p (-26.5p).

The 459 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £128.50 for a Texel and £60 for Blackfaces.
