Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 8 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1345.60 per head and 232p per kg to average £1215.54 and 224.1p, while three prime bullocks peaked at £1332.80 and 214p to level at £1257.53 and 206.1p.

Three prime bulls sold to £1296 and 206p to average £1125.23 and 198.6p.

In the rough ring 45 beef cows averaged 134.6p and 104 dairy cows levelled at 105.6p. Six bulls averaged 94.7p and 14 clean OTM cattle levelled at 158.3p.

A small show of 9 dairy cattle were slightly sharper on the week selling to £1480 for a freshly-calved Holstein Friesian heifer and averaging £1273.

Wallets Marts had 877 prime lambs forward at their weekly sale in Castle Douglas when the auctioneers report that the trade is currently running some £20 per head back on this time last year.

Top prices on the day were £75.20 per head and 173.1p per kg with the final average levelling at 151.4p (-20.6p on the week).

A larger show of 134 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £128 for Texel crosses and £63 for Blackfaces.
