SCOTTISH Government officials had a constructive meeting with Commission officials in Brussels this week.

According to them, it was clear the Commission is actively engaging in the search for a solution to the coupled payments issue following the U-turn on a previous agreement that was made recently.

Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Richard Lochhead, said: "Further work is now needed at a technical level before it's clear whether a solution is feasible and my officials will seek to take that forward as quickly as possible. Any solution must of course be acceptable to the Commission and must also be agreed to by the UK Government."
