Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 25 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday which came to a top of 227 pence per kilogramme and an average of 206.3p.

Meanwhile the six prime bullocks at the sale peaked at 213p and levelled at 201.2p.

The four prime bulls sold to 178p and averaged 137.5p.

In the rough ring the 136 beef cows on offer averaged 128.4p and the 124 dairy cows levelled at 101.6p.

Nine bulls averaged 115.9p and the 17 clean cattle levelled at a price of 168.9p.

The firm had 36 dairy cattle forward at their September show and sale when trade was firmer on the week.

The championship on the day was awarded to a Holstein Friesian heifer from Messrs R Steel & Son, Kepculloch that sold for 3,050gns.

Meanwhile the reserve champion was a H/F Bull off Ian Brocket, Park O' Barnaigh that fetched 2,200gns.

Averages: Commercial dairy cattle averaged out at £1,477.50 for 16; pedigree cows and heifers £1,921.50 for 10; pedigree bulls fetched £2,205 for two, and pedigree heifer stirks were sold at £852.60 for eight.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 93 store heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 229.3p and an average of 199.2p.

The 110 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at a price of 233.3p and levelled at 216.3p.

Twelve store, dairy-bred bullocks were sold to 194.9p and averaged 167.4p.
