THE German economy achieved growth in the second quarter, and France maintained output, as UK gross domestic product plummeted by 0.7%.

European Union data yesterday revealed German GDP rose 0.3% quarter-on-quarter in the three months to June. This followed 0.5% growth in Germany in the first quarter.

France clocked up its third consecutive quarter of steady output.
