In his never-ending quest for new beefs, Infrastructure Secretary Alex Neil has written to Transport Secretary Justine Greening expressing disgust that "state-owned companies from outside Great Britain" are theoretically allowed to operate rail services while homegrown Scottish public bodies cannot. Apart from prompting the question of who in Scotland might run Scottish trains better than SNCF or Deutsche Bahn, the complaint should be seen in the light of the Scottish Government's announcement that it has awarded its entire public secretary electricity contract for the next three years to Electricite de France (EDF), a "state-owned company from outside Great Britain" if ever there was one.
