Scottish tourism's recession-proof top end has "huge high growth potential", according to Tom Murdoch, sales and marketing head of Stirling & Stirling, a luxury Scottish golf vacations company, targeting "ultra-high net worth" individuals.
Murdoch, 29, pictured above at the £2000-a-night Atholl suites in Edinburgh, said that the firm, which has offices in Edinburgh and New York, is confident that wealthy Americans in particular would continue to seek the "authentic experiences" of Scotland regardless of the downturn. The company claims that a healthy order book for 2012-13 for its bespoke eight to nine-day trips costing an average of $20,000 (£12,648) per person was proof that the rich were still prepared to pay for "something different".
