more than two million holders of pension plans with 13 closed life funds, including Scottish Mutual, Scottish Provident and Alba Life, are unlikely to see any cuts in pension charges.

Phoenix Life, which manages £68 billion in historic funds that are closed to new business, told The Herald it was looking at the penalties for exiting old policies that typically have higher charges, but warned terms and conditions might have to be adhered to.
