OFTEN when I'm watching pop videos of girl groups trotting around in high heels and baby-doll dresses I think: "There's something missing here." I can never quite put my finger on it.
Thankfully, the European Commission in Brussels has ridden in sporting shining armour and answered my dilemma. Bunsen burners. That's what's missing. .
On Thursday the EC launched its campaign to encourage more girls to get involved in science. It's called Science: It's a Girl Thing! (exclamation mark campaign's own). Maybe Stem fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) are tightening their belts and can only afford to employ child labour. Oh sorry, when they say "girl" they mean "woman"? Right.
