HUNDREDS of Scots whose lungs have been scarred as a result of working with asbestos and who have a high risk of developing the fatal conditions of mesothelioma or asbestosis were right to believe they had finally won the right to compensation.
Insurance companies acting for the former employers of people who have developed pleural plaques mounted a series of legal challenges to a 2009 Act passed with cross-party support at Holyrood in an attempt to avoid paying damages which could run into millions of pounds.
