IN a letter in The Herald last week, Martin Sime, chief executive of the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, insisted that it would be "detrimental to the future of our democracy" to leave the issue of Scotland's constitutional future "solely in the hands of the political parties".
"On the evidence to date," he wrote, "they are not very good at it."
From the moment it entered the constitutional debate, with a commitment to explore Scotland's appetite for devo max, the SCVO has made a virtue of standing aloof from the political fray.
