YEARS ago I promised myself I would write this letter to The Herald on the day I heard of the death of Sir Tom Risk ("Tributes to ex-bank governor," The Herald, June 30; Obituary, July 5).

In the mid 1970s Tom and Sue Risk were entertaining friends over Sunday lunch at home. After the meal a small boy was discovered eagerly inspecting a big white astronomical reflector telescope that Tom had been using to study the night sky.
