Don't be fooled, there won't be an election until 2015

I fully concur with Iain Paterson in his views on the legitimacy and utility of the present Westminster Government, but I fear he is too optimistic in his outlook (Letters, July 13).

In their eagerness to get a seat at the table, the LibDems agreed to a unilateral change in Commons rules for votes of confidence alone, whereby 55% of MPs need to vote the Government out of office. This was in the interests of "stability". This patently undemocratic act seemed to be accepted with barely a murmur in the Tory-led hysteria of May 2010.
